30 Day Disney Challenge: The End.

It’s obvious by now that I have a horrible time remembering and finding the time to do any kind of “____ Days-Long Challenge.”  (See the Days of Thanks from November if you must… I got to day seven.)

So, since I stink so badly at finishing challenges, I’m going to finish up the 30 Day Disney challenge in this one post.  No muss, no fuss, and I’ll keep the answers *gasp* short.

We left off on Day 21, “An Overrated Movie.”  So now we move on to…

Day 22: An underrated movie.

Winner: Treasure Planet.  treasureplanetvhs If you haven’t seen this movie, WATCH IT.  It is spectacular.

If you think it looks stupid because it’s sailing ships in space, you’re wrong.

Go back, read the original novel, and then watch the movie.  It is an amazing adaption, especially how they re-made all of the characters while keeping true to the original story.

Moving on…

Day 23: A movie that makes you laugh.

Um… All of them?  Nothing is popping immediately to mind…

I guess we will go with

Winner: Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

So many gems of lines in that film.  And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, then clearly you’ve never been to Singapore.

Day 24: A movie that makes you cry.

Winner: Inside Out

Different personality lands

I laughed.  I cried (a lot).  It moved me, Bob.

Day 25: Your favorite scene from your favorite movie.

Winner: The lantern scene from Tangled.

Followed by a close second with this moment:

Eugene rapunze hug

Day 26: Saddest death.

I was about to say Kerchak in Tarzan.  But it goes to…

Winner: Kala & Kerchak’s first baby gorilla.

You thought I’d pick Mufasa, didn’t you?  And watching a beloved character become an orphan after seeing his parent die is sad.
What’s sadder is a baby being torn apart by a leopard and watching the baby’s helpless parents know they can’t stop it.

When you’re done with that visual, we move on to….

Day 27: Your favorite quote.

So, growing up my family spoke mostly in Disney quotes.  This is probably due to watching SO many Disney movies with my sister, who has autism, and would watch one movie over and over again for a month.

Let me tell you: One month of any Disney movie is one too many if you don’t switch it up.  I could probably write out the scores for several Disney films, part-for-part, with barely a flaw, just because I heard them from my room at the end of the hall SO MANY TIMES.  (I consider it a gift.  I can karaoke the crap out of Disney music.)

If you are a Trekki (sp?) who knows about the “When the walls fell” episode, that’s pretty much how my family appears to outsiders.  I’ve known my husband for over six years now, and sometimes he still thinks I’m being rude or snarky when I’m actually quoting Scuttle, or Flounder, or Lumiere, etc.
It can make life really interesting.

Some family faves are:

“It was all ‘this is this, and that is that…'”

“It’s like he’s trying to speak to me!  Look, you’re really cute…”

There are dozens of other family favorites, but I’m blanking.  So in the interest of speed, I’ll pick a personal fave:

“All at once, everything looks different now that I see you.”

Day 28: Your favorite theme park.

Winner: Disney’s Animal Kingdom

I’m obligated to choose this one.  It’s where I got engaged.  😀
Plus it’s usually the most peaceful park to visit.  (hint, hint)

Day 29: Your favorite theme attraction.

Winner: Star Tours/Everest.

I can’t choose just one.  They are SO different.  Star Tours made me cry when my childhood dreams came true.  Everest is one of my favorite coasters OF ALL TIME.

Day 30: Your favorite theme park show.

Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom.

Best show in the parks.  Followed closely by Fantasmic.  But the talent in Festival of the Lion King beats out everything else.  I highly recommend it, especially if Be Prepared is one of your fave villain songs.

Or, as Prince James would say on Sofia the First:

(We have a very Sofia friendly household.)

Hope you enjoyed the quickie-version of the challenge!  Do you agree?  Disagree?  Have other “what are your fave” questions?  Let me know!

Favorite Disney Kiss – 30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 14

Honestly, I forgot this was a category.  And there are so many Disney kisses, yet so little time!  No time to address the important questions, like…

Since when is an under-developed character kissing a ‘dead’ girl completely acceptable?

"It was in the original fairy tale, so a little necrophelia is ok!"
“But, he’s a prince!”     “It’s creepy.”       “It was in the original fairy tale!!”         “Oh, well, that’s ok, then.”

Why does no one remember how desperate Ariel was?

Really, does no one else remember Eric pulling away here? #desperateteenager #resepectyourfather #terribleDisneymorals

Why is this still so cute…

"Aww, look at the cute little puppies, accidentally human-smooching!"
“Aww, look at the cute little puppies, accidentally human-smooching!”

…yet as an adult, this makes you want to cringe?

Wait, feel the WHAT tonight? Ahhh, cover the children's eyes!!!
Wait, feel the WHAT tonight? Ahhh, children, avert your eyes!!!

And, of course, what we were all thinking at the end of Beauty and the Beast…

"Are you sure that's the same guy, Belle? I wouldn't kiss him until you're sure, he looks REALLY weird."
“Are you sure that’s the same guy, Belle? I wouldn’t kiss him until you’re sure, he looks REALLY weird.  I mean, Beast wasn’t exactly blonde…”

But I digress.

Honorable mention: Eugene Fitzherbert and Rapunzel

Eugene lives!
Eugene lives!

You remember the moment.  We all thought he was dead, an entire college auditorium fell silent with tears, and several burly guys around us whispered, “But this is a Disney movie!”

And then sheer joy at Flynn/Eugene’s resurrection!  And we were all rewarded with the couple’s long awaited,

we-knew-it-was-coming-at-some-point-because-it-is-a-Disney-movie kiss.

But it’s not my favorite.

I realized, I love this kiss, by my favorite part of this scene is right here:

That hug.
That hug.

I don’t have a single snarky comment for that embrace.  It’s sheer joy, relief, and love all wrapped into one.  They’re just so happy he’s alive, the kiss is kind of an afterthought.

Favorite Kiss: Aladdin & Jasmine

The Disney kiss to measure all other Disney kisses.
The Disney kiss by which to measure all other Disney kisses.

This is the Disney kiss I watched over and over again as a kid.  Obviously it made quite the impression on me.

I love how it’s really Carpet’s idea to make the new couple smooch.

The look of surprise on both Aladdin and Jasmine’s face, which fades from “Wait, what?!” into “Oh, nope, this is good, kissing is good.  I can kiss more. “

Love it.

Oh, and about those weird Disney kisses you forgot about…

Bet you forgot this one, didn't ya?
Made ya look!

Personal recommendation: If you decide to google “Disney kisses” for whatever purposes, don’t go past page two or three, lest you wander into dark alleys of the internet.  *Shiver.*

Favorite Villain Song – 30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 12

Ahh, another easy day for this challenge!

There are a lot of good villain songs in the Disney-verse.  (Though I must admit, my recent realization that Jafar really doesn’t have his own personal song made me kind of sad.)

I have two honorable mentions:

Poor Unfortunate Souls – The Little Mermaid

"I'll admit that in the past I've been a nasty, they weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch."
“I’ll admit that in the past I’ve been a nasty, they weren’t kidding when they called me, well, a witch.”

Props to Ursula for monologuing only to her minions, and not to the heroine of the story.

Also, I just love how low of an alto voice you need to sing this song.  It’s just fun to sing.

Friends on the Other Side – The Princess and the Frog

Honestly, all I ever remember is "Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, ARE YA READY!??"
Honestly, all I ever remember is “Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, ARE YA READY!??”

As far as villains go, Dr. Facilier is one of my favorites to meet in Disney Parks.  Probably him and Gaston.

Really this is one of my top faves because of the detail in the animation during the song sequence.  Look closely at the picture.  See the difference in the wallpaper that is in the Dr.’s shadow, and the wallpaper that’s in the light?  Yup, those are skulls and crossbones.

Plus it’s just a catchy song.  But the reason it doesn’t win is because Voodoo and calling on evil spirits is creepy.  My first reaction to watching the movie was “Holy canolli, Disney people, that sh*t is real!! This is a kids’ movie!”

Mother Knows Best – Tangled

At this point we all know that I love Tangled, and find Mother Gothel to be a spectacular villain.

I love this song partially for Gothel’s singing (what a voice!), but mostly because we go from this…

"Skip the drama, stay with mama!"
“Skip the drama, stay with mama!”

…to this.

"If he's lying, DON'T come crying. MOTHER knows best!"
“If he’s lying, DON’T come crying. MOTHER knows best!”

What a demonstration of character building, and showing how the villain can develop from annoying and bad to evil and bad.

And now the winner of today’s category is…

Be Prepared – The Lion King

You want a song to motivate you to do housework?

I’ve found, surprisingly, that this one works better than “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.”

Scar’s got the best dramatic flair.  And Jeremy Irons actually sung his part, which is a huge plus.

It’s another case of the villain talking up his plan, but still being smart enough to not monologue to his enemy, the good guy.

What’s your favorite Villain song?

Favorite Love Song – 30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 11

At last!  A day of the challenge that is really easy.

Technically, I See the Light is a love song, but it is also about finding a dream.  And since it is my favorite song in yesterday’s post, I’ve picked another love song that is just lovely.

Love Goes On-Robin Hood

I know what you’re thinking.  “Man, this girl really likes her obscure Disney!”

Which I do.

But this song has always been a favorite, and one that comes to mind whenever I think “Disney Love Song.”

Honorable mentions:

Bella Notte-Lady & the Tramp

So This Is Love-Cinderella

A Whole New World-Aladdin

Kiss the Girl-The Little Mermaid (only because I like to squack Scuttle’s part)

Outside of Ariel's Grotto.
30 Day Challenge, Autism, Music

Music, Autism & a Favorite Song – 30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 10

There is a very important blogging lesson I have learned: when one takes on a challenge that is supposed to have you “do ____ for _____ number of days, all in a row, and don’t skip a day!…” you’re going to skip days.  Whether it’s been an exercise challenge, a writing challenge, anything, there will be days that you have to skip, for one reason or another (like, say, road trips that take all day, National Novel Writing Month, or Thanksgiving turkeys that are completely frozen even though they’ve been thawing for two extra days… to be completely non-specific, of course).

But enough about why this 30 Day challenge is turning out to be a 2 Month challenge!  Let’s go on to the hardest question on this list:

Favorite Disney Song

I know a lot of people who would not have a hard time with this question.  Thank goodness there are four categories of songs in this challenge, so I can whittle my list down a little bit.  But here’s just a tiny bit about my life, so you can understand my dilemma.

I grew up listening to and watching almost every Disney sing-along video cassette that was ever made.

I'm old enough to say that these videos here have the "new" style of covers.
I’m old enough to say that these videos here have the “new” style of covers.

As far back as I can remember, my little sister has had rather severe autism.  Growing up, Disney movies made her happy, but I believe that back then, it had more to do with the music than with the stories.  My sister would Continue reading “Music, Autism & a Favorite Song – 30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 10”

Favorite Original Character – 30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 9

This one is so easy compared to the others.

So, so easy.

No, not the horse. The guy behind the horse.
No, not the horse. The guy behind the horse.

Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert

Just pick your favorite name for him.

Apparently Disney put together a council of women to have "hot guy meetings" to come up with this lovely face.
Apparently, Disney put together a council of women to have “hot guy meetings” to come up with this lovely face. They did well.

“But wait!” you might say, “Rapunzel had a prince in her original story!  He’s not Disney original.”

Well, yes, but that was a prince along the lines of Snow White’s singing kisser (really, those are the only two things he does in the film).  He shows up, falls in love, doesn’t say much but is a nice, loyal guy.

Flynn/Eugene was completely created by the Disney peeps to replace the boring prince from the Rapunzel fairy tales.

So he wins being my favorite original character.  Here’s why: Continue reading “Favorite Original Character – 30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 9”

Favorite Villain – 30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 8

Ah, so many good villains to choose from… Well, villains who are good at being bad, anyway.  I have several honorable mentions, so let’s start with those.

Honorable Mention 1:

Sibling rivalry can go WAY too far.

Scar gets a lot of villain points for having a really good plan in place, and for his dramatic flair.  “Be Prepared” is one of my favorite Disney Villain songs, and actually helps get you moving when housework calls.

"Be prepared for sensational news…"
“Be prepared for sensational news…”

And of course, he’s voice by Jeremy Irons, who actually sings Scar’s parts.  Oh yeah.

Lesson learned: Don’t trust the important jobs to your henchmen, er, hench-hyenas.

Honorable Mention 2:

Literally the Mistress of Evil.
Literally the Mistress of Evil.

Extra villain points for the creepy crow familiar, and for awesome magic powers.

But seriously, why get so ticked off about not being invited to the party?

(Actually, Tumblr answered that question…)

Thanks, Tumblr.
Thanks, Tumblr.

And now, for my favorite Disney Villain…

Mother Gothel

This woman’s got skills.  And she didn’t start out completely evil…

…just really, REALLY creepy.
…just really, REALLY creepy.
She wasn't even going to take Rapunzel at first.
She wasn’t even going to take Rapunzel at first.  Just cut off her hair.  Of course, that plan failed.

Mother Gothel is a brainwashing genius.

With a flair for the dramatic.
With a flair for the dramatic.
Lotsa flair.
Lotsa flair.

Not only has she fooled Rapunzel, she even manages to fool the audience for a little while.

Look closely, she's looking at herself!
Look closely, she’s looking at herself!

Mother Gothel is so good that it almost seems she believes her own lies.

As evidenced by this look of shock when Rapunzel realizes she is the lost princess. Mother Gothel's face reads "Oh crap, there goes my entire life."
As evidenced by this look of shock when Rapunzel realizes she is the lost princess. Mother Gothel’s face reads “Oh crap, there goes my entire life.”
This really made me laugh, but again, great manipulator.
This really made me laugh, but again, great manipulator.

And why everyone loves to hate her:

One of the few villains to succeed in killing everyone they intended to.
One of the few villains to succeed in killing everyone they intended to.
Fun fact: every time Mother Gothel tells Rapunzel "I love you," she's either looking at, touching, or kissing the hair.

Who is your favorite villain?

Disney Days

I have a friend who not only is a fantastic photographer, but is also an amazing photo-editor. Some of her coolest work, and my personal favorites, are what she calls “Disney Days.”

I am happy to say that she has given me permission to share her pictures on my blog!

Apparently, Bambi & friends are in the local woods!

Click me! Bigger & Better resolution.
Is that a bread-and-butterfly?

Points for cuteness, good models, and phenomenal editing.

My personal opinion is that her pictures are better than the magic Disney Photopass pictures, where Disney guests get pictures with characters.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like Disney’s magical photos!  I have one somewhere of a hitchhiking ghost.

But My Photographer gives so much love and time to each picture to make it look just so.

Need a little Cheshire? Click here.
Over here..

She comes up with some pretty clever shots.

“When we’re human…”
“We already ARE!”

Sometimes, I get to model, too!

Best. Day. Ever!
Best. Day. Ever!

And sometimes, she shares the camera with her models and ends up on the lens side of the camera.

Aww, they color coordinated!
They color coordinated! So sassy.

If you like her work, please check out her gallery at http://antisparklevampire.deviantart.com/

Not only is there more Disney, there’s also some Dreamworks, some video games, and just some really cool photos and photo edits.  Enjoy!
