You may have noticed that not only has the title and layout of the blog has changed, but also the web address!
Why The Merry Mousewife?
“Mouse” is for two things: it’s in honor of Mickey Mouse (or as my son likes to say, “Mi-Mouse!), still sounds like “housewife” (since that’s my primary job that I love), and also reminds me of the Churchmice from Robin Hood. Much of my growing up years were spent at church as both parishioner and as a musician, including many Holy Weeks where I would be at church every day, often more than once! My faith is still important in my life today, and a huge part of who I am, and I wanted to find a way to honor that as well.
So there you have it: Mickey, being a housewife, and my faith all came together to form this revamped blog. I think the change will help me open up a new world of writing for myself, and I hope you enjoy!
So I just finished the latest season of Once Upon a Time, and I have to say, it went far beyond my expectations. I thought Frozen would be ridiculous, but it actually worked! Ahh, the soothing feeling of epically-sized plot-holes being filled… Nothing soothes my geeky heart more.
I mean, talk about spot on casting.
Anna and Elsa looked pretty good, too!
And of course, Kristoff.
And I have to say, while I loved these moments…
…I am really happy that they forced Robin to do the right thing.
I have to add that I love Regina, and it was heartwarming to see her happy for a little while.
And last but not least, THIS.
I am so happy these two are still together!
(I mean, dear God, Belle, could you have cut it any closer?!?!?! We Captain Swan shippers nearly died.)
Killian has absolutely become my favorite character in the entire series. I love his backstory. He is wonderfully complex, would do anything for Emma, and even got her father’s approval.
He is also one of the characters where, when he says something, I believe every word. Definitely the best acting out of the cast, right above Rumple and Regina.
Now I can’t wait for next season! I must say, I spied the perfect Cruella in the last episode. I hope they do a lot with her. (Though, isn’t she supposed to be from London? In our world/realm?)
Sadly, I was not able to post day 3 of the Disney Challenge. I was on the road all day to help out family, and didn’t get any time to post before I fell asleep way earlier than I meant to!
But now that I am back, without further ado, here is days 3 and 4 of the Disney 30 Day Challenge!
Day 3: Your favorite heroine.
I have to go with my childhood favorite:
Hands down, my childhood favorite. She risked everything to protect her love, her people, and her values.
But I have a confession to make.
I think Mulan is much more deserving of being the best Disney heroine.
Gaining the respect of an entire nation that believes women should be seen and not heard is amazing. Pocahontas didn’t break the mold of her people as much as Mulan did. But, Pocahontas is my life-long favorite, so she wins the title of “Favorite Heroine.”
Day 4: Your favorite prince.
Absolute favorite. (I’m sorry, Flynn. I love you, too.) He’s adorable, protects others because it’s the right thing to do (remember those kids at the beginning of the movie?), and is brave. Yeah he’s a thief, but so are a lot of good Disney guys. He’s just keeping good company with Robin Hood and Flynn Rider.
Plus, he really loves Jasmine, in the I’d-do-anything-for-you kind of way. He knew he couldn’t marry her, a princess, when Jafar sent him away. He could have gone on to live his life anywhere after that. But he came back, rescued Jasmine, defeated Jafar, and was ready to accept the fact that they couldn’t be together, sad as it was. He is just an overall really good guy, minus the thief thing.
The only thing that could make him better? Put the “Proud of Your Boy” song into the animated movie and re-release it. I would pay big bucks to have that song in the movie!
Do you have a favorite heroine or prince? (C’mon, everyone has a favorite Disney prince. Don’t deny it.) Leave a note and let me know!
So I was casually browsing blogs when I came upon a post that included this list: Since most of my writing time is now being taken up by National Novel Writing Month (click here for more info), I figure this will be a good way for me to keep good blogging habits between bigger posts. One thing to note is that some of these questions could be repetitive. Look at the first three. There is no reason a princess can’t be a heroine. For the sake of this list and just keeping some variety, though, I will do my best to not repeat answers. Also, I will keep princesses to the ones who actually wear fancy crowns. (Sorry, Pocahontas. You’ll get in my list, I promise.) So without further ado:
Day 1: Favorite character
Of course, the hardest question is the first one. At first, I thought this character might also be my favorite princess.
